Online trading is gaining a lot of importance in Taiwan. Today the population of Taiwan Online Trading Companies and e-shops are growing in great numbers in keeping pace with the increasing demands of online business. Online trade is also referred to as ecommerce or e-trading. The Department of Commerce has commissioned the Advanced e-Commerce Institute for conducting "Business to Consumer (B2C) e-Commerce survey" about the Online Trading Companies in Taiwan. Most of the Online Trading Companies in Taiwan sell beauty products, household products of daily use and then technical goods like computer, consumer electronic products and communication products.

More than 10% of the Online Trading Companies in Taiwan sell the above mentioned commodities. According to the estimation in the year 2004, 9% of the e-trading companies in Taiwan traded on food products. This was much for the improved services of home delivery and thanks to the food processing technology as well. Of the total number of Online Trading Companies in Taiwan, only a 19% of the total were large e-stores, and 36% were small-sized and 45% were medium-sized businesses. Forty-six percent sold single products, 38% sold two to five products and only 10% sold more than five different products. This only proved that 10% of online trading companies here sold products of diverse types.
Three categories of e-shops exist in Taiwan. These are run by physical shops, Dot-companies popular as dotcoms and virtual e-stores. E-commerce is commonly done with online credit cards. It can also be done by bank or ATM transfer. Many a times payment is done through postal services or couriers. The money can be also paid through convenience stores. Taiwan’s ecommerce market is following a steady growth rate. According to a survey it was shown that profit that came from the online stores was 3.6% more than the previous year.
